Heritage Architecture
Sensitive alterations, extensions and restorations to listed buildings — working with the character and history of the fabric, not against it.
About This Service
Listed building work demands patience, rigour and respect. Every change requires Listed Building Consent. Every detail matters. We approach this work as a conversation with the original architect — respecting what is significant about the building while giving it a future that works for its occupants.
We handle Listed Building Consent applications, Historic England consultations (for Grade I and II* buildings), conservation officer negotiations and specification of appropriate materials and details.

Every project is different, but the principles are the same. Here's what makes this service work.
01
All alterations to listed buildings require LBC — even internal changes. We prepare full Design & Access Statements, heritage impact assessments and drawings suitable for consent applications.
02
Properties in conservation areas, even if not listed, are subject to specific policies. We understand the character appraisals and know how to design proposals that meet them.
03
Restoration demands understanding of traditional construction — lime mortars, timber-framing, leaded lights, traditional windows. We work with skilled craftsmen we trust.
04
For Grade I and II* listed buildings, Historic England is consulted. We have experience managing these consultations to positive outcomes.
Typical Brief
Grade II or II* alteration · Listed extension · Barn conversion · Thatched cottage restoration · Conservation area extension · Heritage impact assessment
Every commission is shaped by its specific site, brief and client. The list above is indicative — if your project doesn't fit neatly, we'd still like to hear about it.

Step 01
Initial conversation, site visit, brief development and a clear written proposal. You know exactly what you're getting and what it will cost before we begin.
Step 02
Concept design, planning applications, technical design and specification. We work closely with you at every stage — design is a conversation, not a delivery.
Step 03
Tender, contract administration and construction. We stay involved on site, protecting the design and solving problems as they arise until final handover.
