Commercial, residential and heritage architecture across Hampshire and Dorset

South Coast Architects

Architecture across Hampshire, Dorset and the South Coast.

We work with clients across Hampshire, Dorset, the New Forest and the broader South Coast region from our Isle of Wight and London studios. The practice's full capability — residential, commercial, heritage and master planning — is available for every South Coast project we take on.

The South Coast is an ambitious region: growing cities with rich industrial and maritime heritage, surrounded by exceptional landscape including the New Forest National Park and the South Downs. We work across this full range — from waterfront commercial schemes to rural residential projects in the New Forest and coastal new builds along the Solent shore.

South Coast Expertise

Commercial ambition meets landscape sensitivity.

Commercial and workplace design. The South Coast is home to a growing cluster of technology, marine and creative businesses. We design workplaces that help these businesses recruit, retain and inspire — from fit-outs of existing office space to purpose-built headquarters.

New Forest planning. Development within the New Forest National Park is governed by rigorous policies protecting landscape character. We have experience of the Authority's Local Plan and design guidance, and know how to develop proposals that meet its requirements.

Coastal and waterfront design. The South Coast's outstanding natural environment creates both opportunity and constraint. We understand coastal planning policy, flood risk assessment and the particular material and structural challenges of exposed coastal sites.

Heritage and listed buildings. Hampshire contains some of England's finest historic buildings — medieval, Georgian and Victorian. We are experienced in listed building consent applications, conservation area design and the sensitive adaptation of historic fabric.

Commercial Sectors

Hospitality, leisure and workplace.

Our South Coast studio has particular strength in commercial sectors that are significant in the region. We design hotels, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities for operators who understand that the design of a space is inseparable from the experience it delivers. We also work with developers on mixed-use schemes combining retail, hospitality and residential uses.

Our commercial clients range from independent operators commissioning their first venue to established regional chains expanding across the South Coast. In every case we bring the same rigour and ambition that characterises all our work.
