The Studio
ARB-registered architects, based on the Island
We are ARB-registered architects based in Shanklin, Isle of Wight. We work across the Island: new coastal homes in the AONB, whole-house transformations of Victorian and Edwardian properties, sensitive restorations of listed buildings, and commercial and development projects from Cowes to Ventnor.
Our deep knowledge of Isle of Wight planning, including the AONB designation, the Island's separate planning authority, and its stock of Victorian seaside and rural historic properties: means we can give clients informed, realistic advice from the first conversation.

The Isle of Wight is its own planning authority with its own context and quirks.
Over half of the Island is designated as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We know the policies and how to design proposals that succeed within them.
The Island has its own unitary planning authority, separate from the mainland, with its own local plan, policies and officers. Established relationships matter.
Much of the Island's housing dates from the Victorian era. We enjoy adapting and restoring these properties sympathetically while improving performance.
Thatched cottages, rural farmhouses and Grade-listed historic buildings. We love working with traditional materials, and with the meeting of old and new.
The Island's coastline offers remarkable sites. We know coastal planning policy, flood risk, and the design challenges of exposed locations.

Bembridge
Bembridge's harbour and coastal setting creates some of the Island's finest residential sites. We design waterfront and coastal homes within AONB and coastal planning constraints.
Chale
Chale sits in the quiet south Wight: country properties, rural holdings and AONB sites that reward patient, landscape-led design.
Cowes
Cowes is the Solent's yachting capital: Georgian and Victorian townscape, active conservation areas and a fine waterfront. We design waterfront homes, substantial renovations of sailing and lifestyle properties, and hospitality, commercial and development projects around the harbour.
Freshwater
Freshwater and the west Wight offer AONB sites, rural holdings and coastal plots: new country homes, barn conversions of real scale, and sensitive rural development.
Newport
As the Island's capital, Newport combines commercial and civic opportunity with a rich residential stock: workplace and hospitality projects, change of use, residential development and private homes.
Niton
Niton's cliff-top and downland sites are among the Island's most dramatic: coastal homes and rural properties designed within AONB policy and coastal planning constraints.
Ryde
Ryde is the Island's largest town, with a fine Victorian seafront and long views over the Solent. We work on substantial period renovations, waterfront homes, and commercial and development projects across the town.
Sandown

Shanklin is home to our principal studio. We know its cliff-top sites, Victorian seaside architecture and coastal setting intimately, from new homes to whole-house transformations overlooking the Channel.

Totland's AONB-designated western tip offers dramatic coastal sites: new coastal homes and sensitive transformations, designed with rigorous coastal and rural planning expertise.
